The Onyx Hotel tour was conceptually based around the onyx stone, which Britney said ‘guides her in life, to where she needs to go’, crossed with the 1928 musical, “Grand Hotel.” Michael Brooks starred as the ‘Master Of Ceremonies’ welcoming the audience to their stay at the hotel. The show was conceived by Britney and the tours director, Kevin Tancharoen, and was described as a “unique, mysterious hotel powered by an onyx stone, where guests who enter shine their own light into the gemstone and make their fantasies come to life. It’s a vibrant, whimsical place where wondrous dreams are realized, and the darkest of secrets are revealed.” More mature than her previous shows, the setlist included jazz reworking of some of her biggest hits, with seven defined sections: Check-In, Mystic Lounge, Mystic Garden, the Onyx Zone, Security Cameras and Club. Support acts in the UK included JC Chasez and Wicked Wisdom, whilst Kelis supported in select North American venues.
